Dengue Outbreak: All Educational Institutions in Diphu Remain Shut

DIPHU: Dengue infections have increased manifold in the state of Assam. In view of that, the local administration has decided to keep all educational facilities shut till the problem is resolved by the end of the week.

The order was passed by the district management on Sunday in view of the huge number of infections in the district of Karbi Anglong. As per reports, a total number of 271 dengue infection cases have been reported in the last five days alone. All schools and colleges of the region are closed for the week in a bid to prevent any further infection of the disease in the region, especially among the children.

This step has been taken as preventive measures and has been initiated against the "impending epidemic" of dengue fever in the state. All educational institutions falling under the Diphu Municipal Board and the Greater Diphu Town regions in the Karbi Anglong District of Assam fall under this order declaring holiday from November 7 to November 13 in the region.

According to a report from the National Health Mission (NHM), A total of 285 confirmed cases of Dengue have been reported from different parts of the state of Assam from November 1 to November 5. But an alarming number of 271 cases out of these 285 have been reported from the district of Karbi Anglong alone.

Dengue fever and Japanese Encephalitis are often reported in this season across the country. During the monsoons as well as just afterwards, the insect population of the region increase drastically. Thus increasing the number of vector borne diseases. And mosquito borne diseases are the highest.

Even the Central region of India is suffering from the consequences of a large number of dengue infections.

The official statement from the National Health Mission mentioned "The situation in Karbi Anglong is under close watch and all preventive measures are being taken to combat the situation."
